//Hey Girl Hey! / 02.02.16

I can hardly believe it's already February! It's as though January just flew by, isn't it? So what's new with me? Aside from somewhat settling into my new job, Josh and I met with a realtor to list our house and look for a new place--one closer to the city--to move into and raise our future family! It's been a considerable amount of work, but we're both anxious to find a new home and truly put down some roots.

After reading Dita von Teese's book, which I wrote about in this post, I've been aspiring to add more and more glamour into my every day. And although I've been wearing and preferring red lipstick for several years now, this is the first time in a long while that I've been wearing a red lip almost every day. I am the only red-lipstick-loving lawyer I've seen around the courthouse, so there is a sense of pride and power I feel in that.

Additionally, I've been practicing my cat eye (sometimes at my desk before work officially begins...shhhh!), switching up my liquid felt tip pen format for a liquid with traditional brush format. This is the eyeliner I'm currently using and loving, though it is definitely going to take some practice to yield it properly. There are certainly many drugstore brands of liquid & brush eyeliner that will get the job done, but I splurged on this gorgeous edition awhile back. One thing to keep in mind with liquid liner is to allow it proper time to dry--fan yourself with a sheet of sturdy paper if you need!

Josh and I have also been heading for "mini-date nights" to some of our favorite haunts. This was taken at Hink's, which serves, hand to God, the best burgers in the area. We're also quite fond of the pork tenderloin sandwich. What? I'm not drooling, you're drooling...the fact that we go on these little outings is special to me because I love spending time together. And we're both big fans of eating food, so that works out!

//he even tolerates me taking spontaneous photos of us in bed before we go to sleep//

Speaking of Josh, we've been married for three months now and it feels like it's been forever, yet like no time at all. I can't help but think how lucky I am to have found someone who can be silly with me, so supportive, and just overall amazing. Don't get me wrong, it's not always sunshine and roses, but even those moments have been nothing but growing and learning experiences in our relationship. I'm just happy as heck, y'all. I can't wait to see what 2016 brings for us given that 2015 was so damn amazing!

The food department has been polarizing, as you can see...I've tried my hand at icing and decorating cookies for the first time and man, talking about need practice! Luckily, it's a delicious and fun undertaking, so I don't mind giving it as many go's as it takes ;) For the record, the cookie dough was absolutely delicious! Gotta work on that icing, though.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is a love affair with green smoothies (tip for those with a regular blender and NOT an awesome Vitamix like my folks: chop up your greens as best you can and put them in the bottom, loading your other smoothie ingredients on top, to help really blend the greens! Alternatively, you can try a "greens powder," like this one). My current favorite recipe is spinach, kale, romaine (optional), apple, banana, pear, fresh lemon juice, pineapple (canned is perfectly fine!), some water and ice cubes. I don't have a preference for which apples or pears I use--I just get whatever is on sale. I make a BIG batch of it and store it in a pitcher in the fridge. It can get pretty thick, so just add more water to thin it out. And be warned that the ingredients will settle over time so it's best to give the smoothie a quick stir before drinking.

//look how chic my mom is!//

My mom and I have gotten together for a couple of mom/daughter shopping dates already. I love these trips because we get coffee, shop, catch up and gossip, have some lunch or dinner, and just enjoy our time together. It's a bit of ritual for us and something I hope to include my children in some day. Plus, my mom loves getting out of the house since she's tied to the computer for what seems like 24/7 (she and my dad own a business and she handles almost every little aspect of it).

Very recently (as in today), I've worn my hair down all day for the first time in...I don't know how long. November, maybe? I'm almost always wearing it in a topknot or bun, but I've been noticing some hair loss and while I think it's partially due to the medication I was on, I think it may also be due to wearing it tight and in the same position on my head. So I'm switching it up every now and then to get it back to tip-top shape and give it a break!

So that's it for this week's edition of Hey Girl Hey! Thanks for checking in and seeing what's going on. As you may have noticed, I didn't post this past weekend due to some--okay, a LOT--of stuff going on around the house. But I plan on getting into the groove this week, so stay tuned for that! I've got some goodies planned (reviews, organization tips, etc)!! I hope you can join me :)
