//New Year. New Focus.

Happy New Year, folks! I know I'm a couple of days late but hey, you get what you get.

Each year, I look forward to the clean slate that January 1 provides. I used to do traditional resolutions, but lately I've loved to come up with "projects" that I attempt to do the entire year. Notably, I attempt to journal every day but that peters out after the first couple of months. This year, I'm taking on a variety of personal challenges that I hope will enrich my life in some way.

I am participating in Ali Edwards' "One Little Word" and the premise of the project is to select one word that serves as a motivating factor for the year. My word is LEARN. As a new mother and a relatively new attorney, I have a lot to learn and this year will be an interesting one. I also want to learn to do other things, like sew, knit, make a perfect macaron, make fresh pasta, successfully put on false eyelashes, and a whole host of other things. I'm hoping to track my progress here on my blog, as well as a mini album. First up? Work on my writing. Every day I plan to write 500 words towards a short story. Sounds easy but we'll see if I can keep it up.

Another fun thing for this year is the Happily Ever After Book Club. It's a little book club comprised of just my husband and me since we both enjoy reading but haven't done much of it lately--especially since Hazel was born. We each chose six books and drew them at random to select the order for the year. At the end of each month, we make dinner or go out for a bite and discuss the book from that month. Fun, no? The first book is "The Commonwealth" by Ann Patchett. Since we have different tastes in reading material, I'm curious to see what we think of each other's selections.

Oh, and I'm still working on my December Daily. I'm almost finished, but I ran out of ink :/ Whomp whomp. So once that arrives, I'll be able to print my photos and journaling. I don't know if I'll do another video flip-through of the remainder of the album, but I'll post photos at the very least. I'll also share my thoughts on the experience of doing the project for the first time. Stay tuned for that!
